Levi Garrison & Sons Brewing Company is a family-owned, veteran-owned microbrewery in Hamilton, a small town about 75 miles northeast of Kansas City. Opened in 2014 as Ninja Moose Brewery, it changed its name in 2016 after a trademark dispute and took the name of a sorghum company in Osceola run by the owner’s great-grandfather; many locals still call it the Moose. Owner and brewmaster Scott, who holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry, first thought about brewing in the early 1990s while collecting spent grain from Kansas City breweries for ranch livestock. The brewery sits in a historic telephone company building, and its brewhouse grew step by step from five-gallon basement batches to 186 gallons. His nephew Joey learned to brew there and is now head brewer. The taproom keeps 12 house beers on tap plus seasonals, welcomes families and outside food, and its beer is distributed in northwest Missouri.
