River Bluff Brewing

River Bluff Brewing is a St. Joseph brewery housed in a renovated pre-Prohibition brewery that still has its 1800s brewing cellars. The brewery draws on local history, comparing its brewers to the Gold Rush tradesmen who passed through St. Joseph after 1848 and describing its beer as the city’s own liquid gold. Co-founder Chris Lanman, a St. Joseph native, earlier helped his brothers start Basic City Beer Co. and later came home to open River Bluff because the city had no operating local brewery at the time. Lead brewer Vinny Weille joined after decades of award-winning homebrewing and now oversees brewing for the company. River Bluff’s beers have earned medals at the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival, including gold at both in 2024. The brewery also runs a second taproom in the River Market neighborhood of Kansas City and rents out space for events.
