Broken Hatchet Brewing
About
Broken Hatchet Brewing is a family-owned nanobrewery that has made handcrafted beer and seltzers in historic downtown Belton since May 2021. Its name is a nod to local history: temperance crusader Carrie Nation, famous for smashing saloons with a hatchet in the campaign that led to Prohibition, is buried in Belton. Owners Brad and Cara say they simply want to bury the hatchet on that connection and share a few beers with no hard feelings. The brewery occupies the old Cass County library building, which served the community from 1975 to 2003, and that setting inspires library and school puns in beer names such as the Dewey Decimal IPA. Broken Hatchet brews classic styles alongside more thought-provoking beers, and the staff are happy to explain the stories behind the names. The family-friendly taproom also has indoor cornhole and welcomes suggestions from its customers.
