Great Heart Brewing Company

Great Heart Brewing Company is a brewery and restaurant in Olivette founded by John and Helena Valentine. John spent more than a decade in the craft beer business, starting by cleaning kegs and sweeping floors, then studied at Doemens in Bavaria; he is a sixth-generation brewmaster descended from Adolphus Busch. Helena grew up between Switzerland and Germany in a family rooted in restaurants and hop growing, worked at Goldman Sachs in London and later earned an MBA at Washington University. The couple met in Munich during John’s master brewing studies. Great Heart makes traditional European-style ales and lagers, using noble hops from Bavarian and Bohemian farms, many through long-held family relationships. The kitchen serves Alpine-inspired dishes made with quality ingredients and no seed oils, and the brewery takes its spirit from the German idea of Gemütlichkeit, a sense of warmth and belonging.
