Urban Chestnut Brewing Company

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is a St. Louis brewery that calls itself unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented. Its approach, which it calls Beer Divergency, blends new world and old world brewing in three lines: the Revolution Series of modern American craft beers, the Reverence Series of classic European styles, and the Hallertauer Serie of small-batch Bavarian beers. The brewery is especially known for lagers, and it pairs old-world techniques with modern equipment and an on-site quality lab that keeps hundreds of its own yeast strains. Beers have included Zwickel Light, an all-barley light lager, and Squirrel Werks Hazy IPA. In St. Louis, Urban Chestnut runs the Grove Bierhall, which has room for large groups and serves pizza from Fordo’s Killer Pizza, and the Midtown Biergarten, known for burgers, fries and salads. A third brewery operates in Germany’s Hallertau region, near the brewmaster’s hometown. Its Urban Efforts program supports sustainability and local nonprofits.
