Boulevard Brewing Co

Boulevard Brewing Company was founded in Kansas City in 1989 and has grown into the Midwest’s largest specialty brewer. It began with John McDonald, a carpenter with a shop on Southwest Boulevard, who discovered European brewing traditions on a trip to France in the mid-1980s and started homebrewing. He set out to make big, flavorful beers in a city that had gone decades without a craft brewery, converted a historic railroad building into a small brewery and soon carried its first keg, a Boulevard Pale Ale, to a restaurant a mile away. A vintage Bavarian brewhouse produced early favorites such as Unfiltered Wheat, and a 150-barrel brewhouse added in 2006 made room for the Smokestack Series, including Tank 7 American Saison. Boulevard joined Belgium’s Duvel Moortgat family in 2014. Visitors can tour the brewery, eat and drink at the Beer Hall and Rec Deck, and rent event spaces.
