Vine Street Brewing
About
Billed as the first Black-owned brewery in Missouri, Vine Street Brewing Co. occupies a stone building at the heart of Kansas City’s historic 18th & Vine Jazz District, a hub of Black culture and jazz from the 1920s to the 1940s. Built by hand from native limestone in the 1870s, the building once served as the city’s Street Department maintenance hub, and the founders restored it from 2021 to 2022 as a brewhouse, taproom and music venue spread over several levels. Co-founder Kemet Coleman set the goal of a brewery where art rules in 2014 while giving tours at Boulevard Brewing, and he joined Woodie Bonds Jr. and head brewer Elliott Ivory to open the doors on June 30, 2023. The flagship Jazzman black lager scored 94 in Craft Beer & Brewing, and NB2A named it Brewery of the Year in 2024. Live music fills the Groove Room.
