Stockyards Brewing Company
About
Stockyards Brewing Co. is a craft brewery in the Stockyards District of Kansas City’s West Bottoms, opened in 2016 by founder Greg Bland to brew unpretentious, good beer for people who work hard. The stockyards boomed when the area became a railroad hub in the 1860s and helped shape Kansas City, and in 1949 the original Golden Ox restaurant opened on the ground floor of the Livestock Exchange building. After fires and floods left the district run down, Stockyards Brewing moved into the space in mid-2015 to restore it, and the mahogany-paneled walls and stained-glass drop ceiling over the bar remain in today’s taproom. Its stated mission is to brew locally made beer with modern, sustainable methods while honoring West Bottoms history. The brewery has live music on Sunday afternoons, an event space and additional locations in Overland Park, Kansas, and at KCI Airport.
